Intro
After
many requests, it has been decided to port the Tone Stack Calculator to LINUX,
using Borland Kylix it has been
possible to move from the original Delphi
code under windows to Linux. This is an ongoing activity, which has met with some success so far
and even a running copy of Tone Stack Calculator under KDE.
On the right is a screen shot which you can click on it for the full sized picture.
You can download the Kylix source or Intel binaries, but please read the notes
below before downloading!
Help!
If you can help with this project (mainly
advice on how LINUX works for a clueless Windows afficionado), please mail postmaster@duncanamps.com
Topic of the day that's screwing me up, is trying to connect to my Win98 box
from Linux - it works with smbclient, but how do I browse? Would be
grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction.
Notes
The following 3 points are very important!
 | This application (in binary or even source)
will not run on a non Intel system! |
 | Please note that the source code is in
Kylix (Delphi PASCAL) and not C++, I don't have any plans to port it to C++
either but if you look at the help file on the Windows
version there are some snippets in there which should get you started.
Regrettably, I cannot offer any advice or help with this as C++ is not my
strong point, and I don't have any experience of GUI development with C++
under X-Windows. |
 | If you just want to run the binary on your
i386 Linux system, you will need QtLib 2.0 or higher to run this, so make
sure it is on your system. Current distributions of Gnome/KDE come with
this. |
Resources for developers
If you have an Intel i386 Linux distribution,
you can compile the source on your own system with Kylix. Kylix comes in
three flavours (Open edition, Desktop edition, Server edition), two of which are
presented here:
 | Desktop edition: Aimed at those
developing commercial non-server applications and its nearest relative is
Delphi 6 Professional. You can buy the developer edition for £sterling 164.00
or in the US, it's $199.00 - this is a special offer until 23rd August so hurry
hurry... This is one that was used to compile the binary. |
 | Open edition: There is also a free download available from the Borland site, although
the free version cannot be used for commercial software and there are other
restrictions on distribution. Full details of both flavours are available
at http://www.borland.com/kylix/ |
System requirements
Just to summarise, you will need the following
to run the binary version:
 | An Intel based personal computer |
 | Intel i386 Linux distribution |
 | X11 based GUI, preferrably KDE or Gnome |
 | QtLib - if you don't have this, you can
download it from Trolltech |
If you want to recompile the sources, you will
need:
 | Kylix desktop edition or... |
 | Kylix open edition |

source or Intel binaries by clicking on one of the following links:
